About Sophie

As a very analytical person, Sophie has always been fascinated by both technology and life sciences. During her scientifically sound Matura, she worked as a business analyst for SBB Cargo in Basel. After graduating from high school, her keen interest in life sciences led her to study interdisciplinary sciences at ETH Zurich, which encompassed biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science. She specialized in physical-organic chemistry and received her PhD in chemistry from ETH Zurich in 2018.

During her doctorate, she developed an interest in personnel development and personnel management, as she had many teaching assignments at the ETH Faculty of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences. Later at Akana, she was able to expand these skills in human resource management as an IT consultant and project manager for a large IT security project in the banking industry.

Today she is a member of the board of directors of Akana management and oversees Akana’s recruitment and development programs as COO. She uses what she has learned as an ETH scientist and lecturer directly in Akana’s unique mentoring system, which offers young talents everything they need to be successful in their dream consulting career.

Also it should give you a better feeling of the recruiter perspective when applying for a consulting position.

SCRUM has been made an everyday term by Jeff Sutherland and you are often confronted with it. Certain elements from SCRUM, such as the Kanban Board and the daily standup meetings, were very well received – even outside of IT.

The comparison with projects in other industries shows that IT projects are increasingly failing and are being cancelled. Or they end, but are over deadline or budget. According to an international study by the Standish Group, representatives of large companies in DACH, UK and North America stated that 84% of the projects would not be completed or fail in line with deadlines or budgets. Of these 84%, 53% are over the given time and budget or do not include all promised functionalities. 31% of projects either fail or are no longer pursued. Only 16% of all projects were delivered as promised.
